The Local History Society in Højerup: (Established 1994)

Stevns Egnsarboret is a collection of trees and shrubs typical of the region, which are naturally indigenous to the area.

The word arboretum originates from the Latin 'arbor', which means tree. A dictionary of foreign words has this translation: An arboretum is an area planted with trees and shrubs intended for study.

The fence to the east is a phytogeographical planting, which shows the development of vegetation from the Ice Age to the beech period.

Pine Time: (Scots Pine, Birch)

Pigeon-Hazel period: (Scots Pine – Hazel)

Old Linden Time

Large-leaved Lime, Large-leaved Elm, and Common Oak

Beech time: Beech.

The initiative for Stevns Egnsarboret was taken by Selskabet Højeruplund v/ gdr. Niels Hansen, Møllehøj. Nature interpreter Niels Faurholdt, Køge, acted as consulting advisor during the planning and establishment of the Arboretum in the spring of 1994.

It is our hope and wish that the Arboretum will be a source of joy and inspiration for visitors and students.
