About the Højeruplund Company

The Højeruplund Society is a private association founded in 1910 with the aim of "heightening the patriotic sentiment in our people" by, among other things, holding national, cultural, and religious meetings, and erecting memorial stones. In 1911, the then owner of Gjorslev Estate donated the grove "Højerup Lund" to the society. (The beginning of Højeruplund)

The company has created a memorial grove with memorial stones for significant Danes and residents of Stevns. Read more here. (What do the memorials tell us?)

Over the years, a restaurant has been built onto the original forest ranger's residence on the site. The restaurant is leased out. See more

Company history

1932

The Højeruplund Society was handed over the old church in 1932, which lost its chancel in a cliff collapse in 1928. The church ruins are now secured and open to the public during the summer. Read more about the church here. (The Old Church)

1946

In 1946, the association moved a fishing cottage from the village of Højerup to the cliff and rebuilt it as a memorial building next to the church and the church meadow. In the summer, local handicrafts and art are sold from the fishing cottage.

The association's work

The association maintains the area around the church, the inn, the fisherman’s cottage, the memorial grove, the museum building and the meadow to the south of it, totalling just under 10 ha. The association receives income from on-site parking charges, as well as a leasehold fee from the inn and rental income from the church ruins. In addition, there is income from membership fees and the sale of annual passes.

Every year, on the second Tuesday in August, the association organises a singing and music evening in the old church, featuring renowned artists. Admission is free.

Join us

Anyone who can subscribe to the Society's purpose can become a member by paying an annual fee, currently DKK 200. An annual general meeting is held every year in November. The general meeting is announced in Stevnsbladet, Dagbladet and. on this page. The current articles of association can be viewed here.
