18 November 2020 General Meeting

The general assembly on 18 November 2020 was held with good attendance and all elections were re-elections.

The song and music evening

The song and music evening on the second Tuesday in August has been cancelled for 2020. It has been held every year since 1974, but the situation with covid-19 and the resulting space limitations in the old church have led us to decide to cancel it entirely.

We expect to return in 2021.

Our reunion events have also been cancelled – or rather, postponed. We are trying to hold several of the events in a slightly different format during autumn 2020.

Reunification Anniversary I

Thursday 26 March 2020, 7.00 pm–10.00 pm at St Jørgen’s Church, Parkvej 101, Næstved CANCELLED

The event has been CANCELLED due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Sigurd Barrett tells and sings/plays about the Reunification, and the Chairman of Parliament's Schleswig-Holstein Committee, Christian Juhl, places the Reunification in a contemporary context.
In collaboration with the Højeruplund Society, Foreningen Norden, Stevns, Danmarks-Samfundet Stevns-Faxe, the East Zealand Museum Association, and Næstvedegnens Grænseforening.

Reunification Anniversary II

The Chairman of the Border Association, Jens Andresen, speaks about ”The Border in the Years 1950-2020”.

3xBjerre provides musical entertainment with songs related to the border issue. Coffee table along the way.

The 75th anniversary of Denmark's liberation

Monday 4th May 2020 at 7 p.m. in Højeruplund

The Home Guard is organising a flag march with a wreath-laying ceremony at the 5th of May stone and at the memorial stone for the aircrew by Højerup New Church.

Afterwards, a coffee table at the inn with a lecture by Kaare Johannessen: Life under occupation. April 9, 1940 is a date that has been cast in the minds of the Danes. Denmark was occupied by Nazi Germany, and everyday life changed instantly for everyone in the country, high and low. It marked the beginning of “The Five Cursed Years”, with hard times, hardship, and repression. But what was everyday life actually like for Danes during the German occupation?

Tonight's lecture, historian Kåre Johannessen takes the audience on a journey through a piece of Danish history. Not so much politics and major events, but the everyday lives of ordinary Danes. We meet health food fanatics, thrifty housewives, shameless black marketeers, vile collaborators and informers – and of course, brave resistance fighters!

Reunification Anniversary III

Monday 15 June 2020 at 18:30

Flag service at Højerup New Church with the presentation of flags and banners by Danmarks-Samfundet.
After the church service, there will be a parade to the memorial stone for the 800th anniversary of the Dannebrog (with wreath-laying) and onwards to the Reunification Obelisk where a memorial plaque/inscription is to be unveiled.
Afterwards, coffee and cake at Højeruplund and a lecture on the Reunification by Lise Søelund: ”Road, Choice and Will”.

 Due to refurbishment, the old church will be closed to the public.

On 8 November 2019, at a private reception together with the craftspeople, architect, partners and foundations, we celebrated the completion of the restoration of the church ruin.
A wedding was due to take place in the church on November 15th. Immediately before the wedding, a small piece of plaster fell from the ceiling.

The wedding was carried out calmly and in order after some hectic tidying up and cleaning.

A craftsman and architect were brought in to assess the situation, and the entire ceiling was examined. Parts of the ceiling have been repaired previously, and we have decided to have the rest fixed this winter by installing terracotta fabric with stainless steel wire on the ceiling boards using stainless steel staples. It will be roughly plastered with lime mortar 1:3 (Rødvig slaked lime mortar and Kronhøj sand) with filling into the fabric. Once sufficiently dry, it will be smoothed with a board so the mortar is completely worked into the fabric and any excess is levelled off.

The work will take time, and therefore the church will be closed completely for four weeks from Monday 13th January to Friday 7th February 2020. Subsequently, there will be weekend opening hours from 10 am to 4 pm until 1st April, when the church will be open daily to the public from 10 am to 5 pm.
